The Solid Waste Division (SWD) operates the only municipal landfill in Amherst County. The landfill is open to residents of Amherst County, as well as, commercial customers for disposal of garbage. The landfill only accepts municipal solid waste and non-hazardous industrial waste generated in Amherst County.
The County Landfill is located at 715 Kentmoor Farm Road.
The Landfill is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
and Saturdays from 8:00 am -12:00 pm.
All Public Works Locations are closed New Years Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
All Public Works locations close at 2:00 pm on Wednesdays before Thanksgiving and on Christmas Eve.
The 275-acre landfill (of which 38 acres is current permit disposal area) is located on State Route 613 (Kentmoor Farm Road), approximately seven miles northeast of Madison Heights. Owned by Amherst County and operated by the SWD, the landfill receives over 30,000 tons of solid waste a year.
