The Amherst County Extension office is a unit within Virginia Cooperative Extension. There are 107 county and city units throughout the state. We are an educational service, operated under cooperative sponsorship of Amherst County, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Virginia State University, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Amherst County Extension Office is to provide information to people through educational programs, instruction, and publications to help improve their economic, social, and cultural wellbeing. The resources and expertise of the Virginia land-grant universities are utilized by adapting their research to meet the needs and interests of the local area.
