Treasurer
The primary function of the Amherst County Treasurer can be grouped into three major categories. The collection and receipt of revenue, the safe keeping and management of revenue and the appropriate accounting and disbursement of revenue. The Treasurer is sometimes known as the "watch dog of county and state funds."
The Treasurer is one of five constitutional officers and is elected, by the voters of Amherst County, Virginia, for a four-year term. The Amherst County Treasurer is chief financial officer for the county. As of December 31, 2009, former Treasurer, Donald T. Wood retired. Evelyn was appointed to serve as Treasurer beginning January 1, 2010 until the next election is held. Evelyn has served as a Deputy Treasurer for 35 1/2 years, and Chief Deputy Treasurer since 1998.
The Treasurer also serves as an appointed Treasurer to the Amherst County Service Authority. The appointment is made by the Amherst County Board of Supervisors.
