Amherst County, Virginia

I was elected to serve as Supervisor in November 2020 and began my term on January 1, 2020.

Tom Martin is a product of Amherst County, being raised in Monroe.  After graduating from Amherst County High School in 1989, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University and earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Urban Studies and Planning in 1993 and a Masters Level Certificate in Local Government Management from Virginia Tech in 2011.  Tom is a 2014 graduate of the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia Darden School Of Business and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, American Planning Association, is a Virginia Certified Planning Commissioner and holds certification as a Dual Plan Reviewer from the Virginia State Water Control Board.  Tom has over 26 years of Local Government experience and has served as the City Planner for Lynchburg since 2002. 

Tom is a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and believes in serving others.  His neighbor helping neighbor philosophy has led him to volunteer as a Firefighter and EMT in Amherst County since 1995.  Tom is currently the Chief of Amherst Fire Department.  Tom is an Ordained Deacon at Clifford Baptist Church.  Tom and his wife Valarie have four children and reside in Clifford.
