Rockslide Cleanup Completed
Repairs at Riveredge Park have been completed after a rockslide damaged fencing and deposited rocks in the
parking lot. Amherst County Public Works Department removed 90 truckloads of rock, dirt, and debris and laid
down grass seed and straw. Boulders have been placed at the base of the cliff to deter park goers from climbing
the ridge.
Public works will use some of the removed dirt for daily cover at the Amherst County landfill and fix a washout
under the Route 29 overpass adjacent to the Riveredge walking trail. The Amherst County Service Authority used
the remainder for erosion repairs at the Central Virginia Training Center and the Dixie Youth softballs fields.

Olde Town Madison Heights Spring Cleaning Days
It’s time to do some spring cleaning! Public Works will be holding two Clean-Up Days for Olde Town Madison Heights in April. A 30-yard trash container will be available at 502 Main Street in the Solid Rock Church parking lot from 7:30-10:00 am on Saturday, April 2nd, and Saturday, April 9th. Residents may use the container to dispose of trash, tires, and appliances free of charge.
These events are part of a good-faith effort from the Amherst County Administration to mitigate future legal efforts to clean up the area. These days are an opportunity for residents to clean up their properties before the County moves forward with citations.

New Playground Installed at Mill Creek Lake Park
Amherst County Public Works Department has recently installed new equipment at Mill Creek Lake Park. The playground is a Registered National Demonstration Site through PlayCore and includes a sign with a scannable QR code visitors can use to provide feedback. This research will help Amherst determine what features citizens would like to see at other playgrounds and provide the manufacturer with data about what users would like to see in future designs. This project is part of an ongoing effort to improve Mill Creek Lake Park and provide activities for all ages.
PlayCore believes play and recreation improve the quality of life for communities and are essential for society to be healthy and happy. Play and creation transform lives and builds healthy communities. The National Demonstration Site Network is led by PlayCore's Center for Outreach, Research, and Education (CORE). It plays a vital role in raising national awareness for healthy communities and helping local communities share CORE's positive impact on community wellness.

The Amherst County Public Works department planted 15 chestnut saplings from the American Chestnut Foundation planted along the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail near the Roses Mill access point. The saplings are part of an effort to restore the trees to the trail. The trees will grow for several years and should spawn more saplings to replant before blight overtakes them.
