
The Sheriff's Inmate Work Force affords some Amherst County Adult Detention Center Inmates the opportunity to provide the county with a means to address maintenance and beautification needs. The inmates assigned to the program work throughout the county performing tasks from cutting grass and overgrowth from the vicinity of local roadways to helping maintain county property and parks. In 2011, the inmates helped with the undertaking of revitalizing the county parks. Restroom facilities have been renovated, picnic shelters have been restored, and there is more to come.

Stonehouse Lake Project (2011)



One of the 2011 projects for the Work Force was renovating the county parks. Stonehouse Lake received new trash cans, vinyl siding on restroom, painting, and staining of the picnic pavilion.
County Administration Building (2012)


In 2012 members of the Inmate Work Force completely renovated the neglected landscaping in front of the county's administration building. Their efforts included removal of old landscaping, building a terracing wall, spreading mulch, and planting shrubbery. The labor provided by these men saved the taxpayers of Amherst County thousands of dollars.
