The Field Operations Division is the law enforcement component of the Sheriff's Office. The division responds to all calls for service within the 480 square miles of Amherst County. Field Operations provide assistance to the Amherst Town Police Dept, Virginia State Police, ABC Board and adjoining agencies upon request. Our Special Response Team, K9 Teams, Traffic Enforcement, Motor Carrier, and Crime Prevention components supplement the Field Operations' Division. The Field Operations Division is responsible for maintaining law and order for the residents of Amherst County. The Division provides law enforcement services to the citizens of Amherst County 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
