The Sheriff's Inmate Work Force affords some Amherst County Adult Detention Center Inmates the opportunity to provide the county with a means to address maintenance and beautification needs. The inmates assigned to the program work throughout the county performing tasks from cutting grass and overgrowth from the vicinity of local roadways to helping maintain county property and parks. In 2011, the inmates helped with the undertaking of revitalizing the county parks. Restroom facilities have been renovated, picnic shelters have been restored, and there is more to come.

Their efforts included removal of old landscaping, building a terracing wall, spreading mulch, and planting shrubbery. The labor provided by these men saved the taxpayers of Amherst County thousands of dollars.
