In November 2015, the Amherst County Board of Supervisors adopted Part III of the Uniform Statewide Building Code, Property Maintenance.
The purpose of this code is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia, provided that the buildings and structures should be maintained at the least possible cost consistent with recognized standards of health, safety, energy conservation, water conservation, including provisions to prevent overcrowding, rodent or insect infestation, and garbage accumulation; and barrier-free provisions for the physically handicapped and aged.
This code sets a minimum safe standard for existing structures in Virginia.
